Founded in 2019
Inspired by a life-changing experience
Gooden Care was founded in 2019, inspired by a life-changing experience during a trip to Guyana. While visiting a hospital with a friend who was there to see a sick relative, I started a conversation with the hospital staff. Curious about their working conditions, I asked if their income was enough to meet their needs. To my astonishment, I learned about the low pay they were receiving despite their dedication and hard work.
During that visit, the staff inquired about opportunities for overseas healthcare professionals in the UK. I confirmed there were vacancies but explained they would need a Sponsorship Employment Visa. Upon returning to the UK, I brought back six CVs from those staff members, submitted them to healthcare systems in Surrey and Scotland, and was thrilled when all six secured interviews and job offers.
35 Years As A Registered Nurse
This experience stayed with me, but I returned to my job in construction. Then the pandemic struck, and like many others, I faced job loss. I later found work as a supervisor at a cleaning company overseeing various sites, but another challenge arose: I had a workplace accident that led to torn ligaments in my knee, compounded by severe arthritis. Unable to continue in my role, I found myself at a crossroads.
During this challenging time, I reflected on my earlier experience helping healthcare professionals secure jobs in the UK and realised I wanted to make a bigger impact. I decided to establish a recruitment agency dedicated to sourcing the best healthcare professionals and providing them with the support they need to succeed.
This journey is deeply personal. My late mother, who was a qualified nurse from the Caribbean, inspired my work ethic and commitment to care. Despite the challenges of her time, she eventually built a long and respected career in the NHS, working tirelessly for over 35 years. She was known for her compassion, dedication, and even her cooking, which brightened the lives of patients and staff alike.
